Female Education

Napoleon once said, "Give me
an educated mother and I will give you an educated nation”. This statement is
enough to prove the importance of female education. Once female education was
neglected in Bangladesh. Our women folk could not get the chance of education
for various problems. Early marriage and the narrowness of our outlook were
mainly responsible for this. Parents thought it waste of time and money to
educate their girls. They considered that girls were intellectually inferior to
male children. They did not allow them to move freely and to participate in any
outside work. They did not understand that if girl children were educated they
could be as competent as male children. It is unfortunate that still there are
some people who strongly oppose the female education. However, the scenario has
changed nowadays. At present, girls are encouraged to study and admitted into
schools, colleges and universities. Government has taken some steps to educate
female children. Education for girls up to Degree level has been made free with
a monthly stipend. This encourages them to continue their education. We should
remember that only educated women can change the picture of our society. We
hope the literacy rate of women in our country will increase substantially in
near future.

Education means mental and moral training. Education is a light to which
everybody has the equal right. When Allah created man and woman, He drew no
hard and fast line between them. Education is universal to all. Allah made the
pursuit of knowledge compulsory for every man and woman. But it is a matter of
fact that the importance of educating woman is still out of reach. The
condition of woman education in our country is in dark yet. The importance of
female education is not realized till now. Once female education was
neglected in our country. But women are nowadays as important as men in
society. They constitute nearly half of our population. A good mother means an
educated mother. According to the history, women in the past were confined
within the four walls. But at present they are no longer captive to their
parents’ or husbands’ house. By receiving higher education, women are becoming
pilots, doctors, engineers, high officials etc. They are contributing much to
the economy. Now it has come to the realization of men including parents and
others that no development is possible by keeping half of our population
illiterate at home. Besides, our government has already introduced stipend,
free books, etc. to encourage the girls. Even it is declared free and
compulsory education for girls upto the SSC.
