Story on The King and the Astrologer

  The King and the Astrologer Once there was a king. He was fond of (প্রিয়/পছন্দ/আগ্রহ) knowing his future from the astrologers (জ্যোতিষি). Very often (প্রায়ই), he called in the astrologer to his palace (রাজ প্রসাদ) and had known from them what was in store for his luck. Once a good astrologer was going to Benaras (বেনারস-একটি জায়গার নাম). The king called for him to his palace to know about his future. The astrologer told the king something unpleasant (অসন্তোষ/অপ্রীতিকর) about his life.    At this, the king became angry and instantly (তাৎক্ষনিক) condemned (কন্ডেস্ড= নিন্দা করা) him to death. The king said, "Man like you should not live to spoil (নষ্ট করা) the peace of the world." However, the astrologer was about to be taken to the place of execution (মৃত্যুদণ্ড). He brought a cat. As a result, the mice could not come out of their holes. One day all the mice sat together in order to find a way out. Different mice gave different suggestions. At last a young mouse wanted to present a proposal. All the mice asked him to make his proposal.   THE WOLF AND THE LAMB A hungry wolf was once drinking water at a stream. He caught sight of a lamb drinking water far down. He wanted to eat it up. He ran up to it and said very angrily, “Why are you making the water muddy? Don’t you see that I am drinking it?” The poor little lamb began to tremble and said, “Please, sir, the water is flowing from you to me. So I am not at all making it dirty for you.” “But why did you call me names last year?” thundered the wolf. “You are mistaken, sir,” replied the lamb. “I was not even born last year.” “Then it must have been your elder brother. The dog and his shadow Once upon a time there was a dog. He was very greedy. He used to steal food. One day he stole a piece of meat from a butcher’s shop. Holding it in its mouth, he ran towards the forest where he lived. On the way to the forest he had to cross a river. There was a bridge over the river. When he was crossing the bridge, he looked down.   He saw his own shadow reflecting in the river water. He thought it was a real dog which was carrying a bigger piece of meat.
