The Lion And The Mouse

Once a lion was sleeping in a forest. Suddenly a mouse came there. It was running about and playing happily. By chance it ran over the face of the lion. It awoke the lion. At this the lion grew very angry with the silly mouse. The mouse became very much frightened. But he did not lose heart. He said to the lion. “Oh king of the jungle, I am a very tiny creature. I have made a great mistake, please forgive me this time. I may be of some help to you any time.” Hearing this, the lion smiled and let the mouse go. The Lion was much amused to think that a Mouse could ever help him. But he was generous and finally let the Mouse go. Days, months and years passed by. One night the mouse heard the roar of a lion. The mouse went to the place from where the sound was coming. Having reached there he saw the lion trapped in a hunter’s net. The net was too strong for the lion to tear. The mouse gave his identity and requested him not to make any sound. Then the mouse began to cut the rope with its sharp teeth. The lion was freed before dawn. The lion expressed his gratitude to the mouse. The mouse said in reply, “Even the smallest creatures can be of great help to the giants.” The lion turned to the mouse and said, “Dear friend, I was foolish to ridicule you for being small. You helped me by saving my life after all!”

Moral: A kindness is never wasted. / Everything has its own value.

একবার এক বনে সিংহ ঘুমাচ্ছিল। হঠাৎ সেখানে একটা ইঁদুর এসে পড়ল। এটা প্রায় দৌড় এবং আনন্দে খেলা ছিল. দৈবক্রমে তা সিংহের মুখের উপর দিয়ে চলে গেল। এটি সিংহকে জাগিয়ে তুলেছিল। এতে সিংহটি মূর্খ ইঁদুরের উপর খুব রেগে গেল। ইঁদুর খুব ভয় পেয়ে গেল। তবে তিনি মনোবল হারাননি। সিংহকে বললেন। “ওহে জঙ্গলের রাজা, আমি অতি ক্ষুদ্র প্রাণী। আমি অনেক বড় ভুল করেছি, এইবার আমাকে ক্ষমা করে দিন। আমি যে কোনো সময় আপনার কিছু সাহায্য করতে পারি।" একথা শুনে সিংহ হেসে ইঁদুরটিকে ছেড়ে দিল। একটি ইঁদুর তাকে সাহায্য করতে পারে ভেবে সিংহটি খুব মজা পেয়েছিল। কিন্তু তিনি উদার ছিলেন এবং অবশেষে মাউসকে ছেড়ে দিলেন। দিন, মাস, বছর কেটে গেল। একদিন রাতে ইঁদুর সিংহের গর্জন শুনতে পেল। যেখান থেকে আওয়াজ আসছিল সেখানে ইঁদুর চলে গেল। সেখানে পৌঁছে তিনি দেখলেন শিকারির জালে সিংহ আটকে আছে। জালটি সিংহের পক্ষে ছিঁড়ে যাওয়ার পক্ষে খুব শক্তিশালী ছিল। ইঁদুরটি তার পরিচয় দিল এবং তাকে কোন শব্দ না করার জন্য অনুরোধ করল। তারপর ইঁদুর তার ধারালো দাঁত দিয়ে দড়ি কাটতে শুরু করল। ভোর হওয়ার আগেই সিংহকে মুক্ত করা হয়। সিংহ ইঁদুরের প্রতি কৃতজ্ঞতা প্রকাশ করল। ইঁদুর উত্তরে বলল, "ছোটতম প্রাণীও দৈত্যদের জন্য অনেক সাহায্য করতে পারে।" সিংহ ইঁদুরের দিকে ফিরে বলল, “প্রিয় বন্ধু, ছোট বলে তোমাকে উপহাস করা আমি বোকা ছিলাম। আপনি আমার জীবন বাঁচিয়ে আমাকে সাহায্য করেছেন!”

A lion was sleeping in a forest. A mouse started playing on it. The lion was disturbed and arose from his sleep. It caught up the mouse angrily and tried to crush it to death. Then the mouse prayed the lion to leave him off and assured that it would help him when it needed. The lion laughed at it and let him off. One day the lion was caught in a net spread by a hunter. It roared and tried to escape but in vain. The mouse heard the lion's roaring and came there. It started cutting the net with its teeth. The lion escaped and thanked the mouse.

একটা সিংহ একটা জঙ্গলে ঘুমাচ্ছিল। একটি ইঁদুর তার উপর খেলা শুরু করে। সিংহ বিরক্ত হয়ে ঘুম থেকে উঠল। এটি রাগ করে ইঁদুরটিকে ধরে ফেলে এবং এটিকে পিষে মারার চেষ্টা করে। তারপর ইঁদুরটি সিংহকে তাকে ছেড়ে যাওয়ার জন্য প্রার্থনা করল এবং আশ্বাস দিল যে এটি যখন প্রয়োজন তখন তাকে সাহায্য করবে। সিংহ তা দেখে হেসে তাকে ছেড়ে দিল। একদিন এক শিকারীর জালে সিংহ ধরা পড়ে। এটা গর্জে উঠল এবং পালানোর চেষ্টা করল কিন্তু বৃথা। ইঁদুর সিংহের গর্জন শুনে সেখানে এল। দাঁত দিয়ে জাল কাটতে থাকে। সিংহ পালিয়ে গিয়ে ইঁদুরকে ধন্যবাদ জানাল।

 

MORAL : Everything has its own value
