Story on The King and the Astrologer

 The King and the Astrologer

Once there was a king. He was fond of (প্রিয়/পছন্দ/আগ্রহ) knowing his future from the astrologers (জ্যোতিষি). Very often (প্রায়ই), he called in the astrologer to his palace (রাজ প্রসাদ) and had known from them what was in store for his luck. Once a good astrologer was going to Benaras (বেনারস-একটি জায়গার নাম). The king called for him to his palace to know about his future. The astrologer told the king something unpleasant (অসন্তোষ/অপ্রীতিকর) about his life.

At this, the king became angry and instantly (তাৎক্ষনিক) condemned (কন্ডেস্ড= নিন্দা করা) him to death. The king said, "Man like you should not live to spoil (নষ্ট করা) the peace of the world." However, the astrologer was about to be taken to the place of execution (মৃত্যুদণ্ড). At that time, a thought (চিন্তা/ভাবনা) crossed through king's mind, "How long would you live?" asked the king.

The astrologer readily hit upon a plan to escape (মুক্তি) death. With his ready wit (বুদ্ধি), he answered, "The stars (নক্ষত্র) declares (ঘোষনা করা) that I shall die only a week before your death! I shall wait to receive your majesty (মহিমা/মহত্ত্ব) where you have been sending me." At this the king turned pale (ফ্যাকাশে). He instantly (তাৎক্ষনিক) ordered his men shouting, "Drive this wretch (হতভাগা/নরাধম) away and let him never come again."

Or,                                             The King and the Astrologer

Once upon a time there was a king. He was very fond of knowing his future. A famous astrologer happened to stop at his capital on his way to Benares. The king called on him to know about his future. With ready-wit the astrologer said, “The stars declare that I shall die only a week before yours, Majesty.” “So good bye” he said to the king. Hearing this the king turned pale like a dead man.
