Abu Ben Adhem and the angel

 Story

Abu Ben Adhem and the angel

There was A pious man named Abu Ben Adhem. He was very good and honest. He loved his fellow people very much. He always helped them in distress. One night Abu said his prayers and went to bed. He was sleeping in his room. His room was then quite dark. It was midnight. Suddenly there was a strange light in the room and Abu woke up and saw an angel writing something in a book of gold.

First Abu got frightened. As he was pious, he picked up courage and said to the angel, ” What are you writing in your book?” The angel looked up and replied in a sweet tone, “I am writing the names of those who love mankind.” “Is mine one there?” asked Abu. “No, it's not there,” replied the angel. Then Abu said, “l pray then, “Write my name as I'm one of them.” The angel looked at Abu with a smiling face and wrote something. He saluted Abu and went away. The next night the angel came again. Abu’s room was again full of light and the angel was with a list of names in his hand. The angel showed him the list. Abu’s name led all the rest. The angel disappeared saying, “You love fellowmen. So Allah loves you the best.”
