Mujib Borsho / Mujib Year


The Mujib Year is a period from March 16, 2020 to March 17, 2021. The Government of Bangladesh declared the Mujib Year to celebrate the centenary of the birth of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the year-long program on March 17, the birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. UNESCO also announced the celebration of Mujib Year jointly with the Government of Bangladesh. This declaration of UNESCO opens the door for the celebration of Mujib Year worldwide. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was born in an aristocratic Muslim family in Tungipara village under Gopalganj district. He is called Bangabandhu and the founding father of Bangladesh. Bangladesh became independent under his strong leadership. In fact, Mujib’s ideology and voice against oppression can be an ideal model for the world. Therefore, the main purpose of celebrating the year of Mujib is to present the eventful life of this great leader and his ideals to the young generation of the country and abroad. Clearly, celebrating the Mujib Year has brought many positive changes for Bangladesh. As part of the celebrations, the Bangladesh government undertook many developmental programs. These include electrification of all villages in Bangladesh, eradication of poverty, provision of ICT facilities to more people, etc. In the year of Mujib, steps were taken to set up a sculpture of Bangabandhu at the Madame Tussauds Museum and at the United Nations Headquarters in London. Various organizations took many programs and steps to celebrate the year of Mujib highlighting the life and work of Bangabandhu throughout the year. Thus the celebration of Mujib Year has become a part of history for the freedom loving people of the world.
